About Schiavon
Schiavon
Schiavon is a small comune in the Province of Vicenza, in the Veneto region of northeastern Italy. The village sits in the Brenta river valley, roughly 35 kilometres northwest of Vicenza and about 50 kilometres from Venice. Its agricultural landscape — vineyards, maize fields, and low hills — typifies the Veneto plain between the Dolomite foothills and the Adriatic coast. The surrounding area falls within the Breganze DOC wine zone, known for Torcolato dessert wine and local Vespaiolo whites.
Visitors come mainly for rural agritourism, cycling the flat valley roads, and day trips to Bassano del Grappa (12 km north), with its 16th-century Ponte Vecchio designed by Andrea Palladio. Marostica, famous for its living chess game held every even-numbered year in the medieval Piazza Castello, lies 10 kilometres to the east. Schiavon itself hosts a modest historic parish church and the Villa Monza, a Venetian-era country estate reflecting the landed architecture common across the Veneto.
Accommodation in Schiavon consists primarily of agriturismo properties and small family-run guesthouses. Verona Villafranca Airport (VRN) is approximately 80 kilometres to the west; Marco Polo Airport in Venice (VCE) is around 70 kilometres southeast.
