About Lòcula/Loculi
Loculi — Small Municipality in the Baronia District
Loculi (Sardinian: Lòcula) is a small municipality in the Baronia district of Nuoro Province, central-eastern Sardinia. The village sits on a low plateau roughly 15 km inland from the Tyrrhenian coast near Orosei, at an elevation of around 200 metres. Lake Cedrino — formed by a dam on the Cedrino river — borders the southern edge of the municipal territory and defines much of the local landscape. Limestone outcrops and macchia scrubland characterise the surroundings, typical of the Nuorese interior before the terrain drops toward the Gulf of Orosei.
Visitors come primarily to use Loculi as a quiet base for the wider Baronia and Supramonte region. Cala Gonone, one of Sardinia's most photographed coastal villages, lies roughly 25 km east along the SS125 road. Nuoro city, which houses the Museo Etnografico Sardo founded in 1963, is about 40 km west. The Supramonte karst massif — a UNESCO-nominated limestone wilderness containing the Gorropu gorge, one of Europe's deepest canyons — is accessible within 30 km. Travellers drawn to hiking, cycling, and freshwater fishing make up most of the visitor base, alongside those seeking lower accommodation costs compared to Orosei or Dorgali.
Lodging options are limited to agriturismo farms and a handful of small guesthouses; no large hotel chains operate in the municipality. The nearest major airport is Olbia Costa Smeralda, approximately 90 km north via the SS131 DCN. The village population stands below 500 residents, making it one of the quieter inland stops along the Baronia plateau.
