About Marèo - Enneberg - Marebbe

Marèo - Enneberg - Marebbe

Marebbe (German: Enneberg, Ladin: Marèo) sits at roughly 1,000 metres in the Val Marebbe, a side valley of the Pusteria corridor in South Tyrol, northeastern Italy. The municipality belongs to the Ladin-speaking heartland of the Dolomites — a UNESCO World Heritage area inscribed in 2009 — and borders the Fanes-Sennes-Braies Nature Park to the south. Three languages share road signs here: Italian, German, and Ladin, reflecting centuries of overlapping Alpine culture.

Skiers and hikers make up most visitors. The Plan de Corones (Kronplatz) ski area, one of South Tyrol's largest with 119 km of marked runs, is accessible from Brunico/Bruneck roughly 18 km north via the SS244. In summer, the valley opens onto long-distance routes including sections of the Alta Via 1, a high-level trail crossing the Fanes plateau. The Fanes waterfall and the Lago di Braies (Pragser Wildsee) draw day-trippers from late May through October.

Accommodation in Marebbe centres on the hamlets of San Vigilio di Marebbe (St. Vigil in Enneberg) at 1,201 m, the largest settlement and main lift base. Most properties are family-run guesthouses and 3- to 4-star alpine hotels. The valley road connects to the A22 Brenner motorway via Brunico, roughly a 25-minute drive.
