About Oyace

Oyace

Oyace sits at roughly 1,400 metres in the Valpelline, a lateral valley branching west from the main Aosta Valley in northern Italy. The municipality covers scattered hamlets — Oyace itself, Chamin, and Moulin — linked by narrow roads climbing toward the Col de Vessona and the Gran San Bernardo massif. The population numbers fewer than 250 residents, making it one of the quieter corners of Valle d'Aosta.

Hikers and alpinists account for most visitors. The valley feeds into the Grandes Murailles ridge system and connects to cross-border trails leading toward Switzerland. Summer brings trekkers following the Alta Via 3, while winter draws snowshoers and ski-touring parties. The Valpelline reservoir, Lago di Place Moulin, sits a few kilometres south and adds a scenic anchor for day walks. Local food follows Valdostan tradition: fontina DOP cheese, carbonade (cured beef braised in wine), and tégole biscuits.

The nearest rail and bus hub is Aosta city, approximately 25 km to the east via the SS27 road. Most visitors arrive by car; the drive from Aosta takes around 30 minutes under normal conditions.
