About Valle di Cadore

Valle di Cadore

Valle di Cadore sits in the Belluno province of Veneto, northeastern Italy, at roughly 900 metres elevation in the Piave River valley. The Dolomites — a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2009 — frame the town on every side, with the Marmarole and Antelao massifs rising directly above the valley floor. This is not a resort hub; it is a working Alpine comune of around 1,800 residents that serves as a quieter base for the wider Cadore district.

Most visitors arrive for mountain access rather than urban amenities. The Antelao, at 3,264 metres the second-highest peak in the Dolomites east of the Boite valley, draws experienced hikers. The area also connects via regional roads to Cortina d'Ampezzo, roughly 25 km north, and to Pieve di Cadore — birthplace of the Renaissance painter Titian — 7 km south. That proximity lets guests reach two of the Veneto's most historically significant Alpine sites within a 30-minute drive.

Accommodation in Valle di Cadore runs to small family-run hotels and agriturismi rather than large chains. The valley receives heavy snowfall between December and March, making winter stays viable for cross-country skiing on marked trails in the Comelico and Cadore networks. Summer temperatures average 20–24 °C in July, with long daylight hours suited to multi-day trekking circuits.
