About Borca di Cadore
Borca di Cadore
Borca di Cadore sits in the Boite valley of the Cadore region in Veneto, roughly 12 km south of Cortina d'Ampezzo. The village lies at around 800 metres elevation, with Monte Antelao — at 3,264 m the second-highest peak in the Dolomites — rising directly to the east. That geography draws hikers, climbers, and cross-country skiers who want a quieter base than Cortina while staying within easy reach of the same trail network and ski lifts.
The village is also known for the Villaggio Eni di Borca, a mid-20th-century modernist resort complex built between 1954 and 1963 for ENI employees. Designed by Edoardo Gellner with input from Carlo Scarpa, the site includes over 400 bungalows and a distinctive church, and has attracted architectural tourism since its partial restoration began in recent years. Visitors combine Dolomites outdoor activity with a rare chance to walk through intact postwar Italian rationalist planning.
Accommodation in Borca di Cadore runs mainly to small family-run hotels and mountain guesthouses. The SS51 road connects the village to Belluno (about 50 km south) and to Cortina (12 km north), both reachable by regional bus. The nearest train station with regular service is Calalzo di Cadore, approximately 20 km south.
