Plan your stay in Cortina d'Ampezzo: Dolomites skiing, 2026 Winter Olympics venues, and year-round alpine trails in the UNESCO-listed Ampezzo valley.
Cortina d'Ampezzo sits in the Dolomites of northeastern Italy, at roughly 1,224 meters above sea level in the Ampezzo valley. The town is ringed by peaks — the Tofane massif to the west, Cristallo to the northeast — that give it a natural amphitheater setting recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage landscape since 2009. The Corso Italia, Cortina's pedestrian main street, runs through a compact center of Belle Époque hotels, independent boutiques, and family-run restaurants serving Ladin and Veneto cuisine.
Skiers and snowboarders arrive from December through March for the Dolomiti Superski circuit, one of the largest lift-linked ski areas in the world, with over 1,200 km of marked runs across 12 valleys. Cortina hosted the 1956 Winter Olympics and is co-hosting the 2026 Winter Olympics alongside Milan — a fact that has accelerated infrastructure investment across the region. In summer, the same terrain draws hikers, trail runners, and climbers to via ferrata routes and the high-altitude Cinque Torri plateau. The town also attracts a design-conscious crowd during the Cortina Fashion Week held each January.
Cortina is served by Innsbruck Airport (roughly 100 km north) and Venice Marco Polo Airport (approximately 160 km south). The A27 motorway connects Venice to Belluno; from there the SS51 state road runs directly into the valley. Most accommodations are concentrated within walking distance of the Corso Italia.
