Merzouga village, where the asphalt ends and the sand begins, sits roughly two kilometres west, keeping the camp clear of generator noise and food-stall crowds. Camel treks to the dune crests depart at dusk; the route takes around forty minutes and returns under a sky with negligible light pollution this far into the Sahara.
