Kasbah Zitoune

Two kilometres from Ouarzazate's centre, Kasbah Zitoune occupies a rammed-earth fortress in Tifoultoute overlooking the Draa valley palm groves — a base for travellers en route to the Sahara dunes or Ait Benhaddou rather than a city-centre stay.

Rooms keep thick clay walls and carved cedar doors; several open onto a shared rooftop terrace facing the kasbah ruins across the river. Tagines are cooked to order in a wood-fired oven visible from the courtyard.

Drivers reach the Todra and Dades gorges within a two-hour radius, making Zitoune a common overnight stop on desert circuits.
