About Asuncion

Asuncion: Gateway to Davao del Norte's Agricultural Heartland

Asuncion is a municipality in Davao del Norte, on the island of Mindanao in the southern Philippines. Positioned roughly 80 kilometres north of Davao City, it sits within the fertile Tagum-Libuganon River corridor, where banana and rubber plantations define the landscape. The town centre clusters around Poblacion and is surrounded by barangays that support one of the region's most productive agricultural economies.

Where to Stay and Getting Around

Accommodations in Asuncion are small guesthouses and traveller's inns catering mainly to agricultural workers, government visitors, and overland travellers passing through on the Davao–Tagum–Butuan corridor. Tagum City, the provincial capital, lies approximately 30 kilometres south and offers a wider range of hotels for those using Asuncion as a day base. Jeepneys and multicabs connect Asuncion to Tagum and neighbouring towns throughout the day.

Practical Tips

  • Getting there: Buses and jeepneys from Tagum City Grand Terminal reach Asuncion in roughly 45–60 minutes.
  • Climate: Davao del Norte receives rainfall year-round; pack light rain gear regardless of season.
  • Currency: Bring Philippine pesos in cash — ATM access in the town centre is limited.
  • Language: Cebuano (Bisaya) is the primary spoken language; Filipino and basic English are understood.
