About Gozón
Gozón
Gozón is a coastal municipality in Asturias, northern Spain, shaped by its position on the Cantabrian Sea. Its defining landmark is Cabo Peñas — the northernmost point of Asturias — a headland with a working lighthouse and cliff paths that reach the open Atlantic. The cape sits roughly 25 kilometres north of Oviedo and draws walkers, birdwatchers, and photographers throughout the year.
The municipal capital, Luanco, is a compact fishing town built around a sheltered bay. Its old quarter holds a Maritime Museum that traces centuries of local seafaring history. Visitors come for the beaches — Playa de Luanco and Playa de Bañugues among them — and for the seafood: percebes, fresh hake, and grilled sea bass served in the harbour-front restaurants that define the Asturian coastal table. The municipality also sits within the Green Coast corridor, a stretch of Atlantic shoreline noted for its mild, wet climate and deep-green inland hills.
Gozón receives most visitors between June and September, when sea temperatures allow swimming and local festivals fill Luanco's plaza. Public bus routes connect Luanco to Avilés and Gijón, each roughly 20 kilometres away, making it a practical base for exploring central Asturias without staying in a larger city.
