About Puntagorda
Puntagorda sits on the northwestern slopes of La Palma, Canary Islands, at roughly 1,000 metres above sea level. The municipality covers steep terrain dropping toward the Atlantic — pine forest on one side, almond groves and terraced farmland on the other. The population hovers around 1,800 residents, making it one of La Palma's quieter townships. The annual Almond Blossom Festival, held each February, draws visitors from across the island when the orchards turn white and pink across the hillsides.
Hikers and nature-focused travellers make up the bulk of visitors. Puntagorda connects to several trails within the Caldera de Taburiente National Park, which borders the municipality to the east. The GR 130 long-distance route passes through the area, linking the north and south of La Palma on foot. Stargazers also come here — La Palma holds a sky-protection law limiting light pollution, and the elevation gives clear views on most nights.
The nearest airport is La Palma Airport (SPC), located approximately 30 km south near Santa Cruz de La Palma. Car hire is the practical choice — public bus connections to Puntagorda are limited to a few services daily on the LP-1 coastal road route.
