Puntallana sits on the northeastern slope of La Palma, Canary Islands, roughly 8 km north of the island capital Santa Cruz de La Palma. The municipality is defined by steep banana plantations, laurisilva forest edges, and direct Atlantic-facing cliffs that drop into deep-blue water. The village church, Iglesia de San Juan Bautista, anchors the small central square and dates to the 16th century — one of the older parish structures on the island. Elevation varies sharply: the coast sits near sea level while the upper barrios push past 600 m, giving the area a noticeably cooler and wetter microclimate than southern La Palma.

Visitors come primarily for low-density rural tourism. The GR 130 long-distance trail — which circles the entire island — passes through Puntallana, drawing hikers who want a quieter alternative to the Caldera de Taburiente routes further west. Local pools at La Fajana, natural seawater pools carved into the lava shoreline, are among the most-used bathing spots on La Palma's eastern coast. The area also draws travelers interested in La Palma's UNESCO Biosphere Reserve status, awarded in 2002 and extended to cover the full island.

Accommodation in Puntallana runs to rural guesthouses and self-catering casas rurales rather than large hotels. The closest full-service hotel infrastructure is in Santa Cruz de La Palma, approximately 15 minutes by car along the LP-1 coastal road.
