About San Andrés y Sauces

San Andrés y Sauces sits on the northeastern coast of La Palma, Canary Islands, roughly 20 km north of the island capital Santa Cruz de La Palma. The municipality merges two historic settlements — San Andrés on the coast and Los Sauces (the willows) inland — surrounded by some of the most productive banana plantations in the archipelago. The cliffs here drop sharply to the Atlantic, and the coastal road offers direct views of lava-edged shoreline that defines northern La Palma.

Most visitors come for Charco Azul, a series of natural seawater pools carved into the basalt rock that attract swimmers from across the island each summer. The nearby Los Tilos biosphere reserve, a UNESCO-recognised laurel forest (laurisilva), begins just a few kilometres inland and draws hikers seeking the endemic flora that once covered much of southern Europe during the Tertiary period. Birdwatchers target the Bolle's pigeon and laurel pigeon, both rare species found in these forests.

The municipal market in Los Sauces sells local platano canario bananas, papaya, and palm honey — a dark syrup made from the Canarian date palm unique to the islands. Inter-urban buses connect the town to Santa Cruz de La Palma in under 40 minutes. The nearest airport, La Palma Airport (SPC), is approximately 25 km south.
