The Sun House

Eight-room colonial mansion set on Hospital Hill above Galle Fort, The Sun House occupies a Greek spice merchant's 1860s residence where original teak shutters, pressed-metal ceilings, and antique floor tiles remain the defining details rather than renovation afterthoughts.

A garden pool terrace faces the Dutch ramparts and ocean; dinners are served there by prior arrangement, leaning on Galle market produce and Sri Lankan-inflected takes on colonial-era recipes. The format is closer to a private house than a hotel — no lobby bar, no buffet.

Galle Fort's UNESCO-listed streets begin roughly five minutes downhill on foot, with the lighthouse at the southern tip reachable in fifteen. Most guests arrive from Bandaranaike International Airport in Colombo, approximately three hours by road along the Southern Expressway.
