About Andijan
Andijan: Fergana Valley's Eastern Trade Hub
Andijan sits at the eastern edge of the Fergana Valley in Uzbekistan, roughly 370 km east of Tashkent near the Kyrgyzstan border. Founded over two millennia ago, the city is best known as the birthplace of Babur (1483), the Timurid prince who founded the Mughal Empire. The Babur Literary Museum on Navoi Street preserves manuscripts and chronicles tied to his life, drawing scholars and heritage travelers. The central Jome Mosque, rebuilt after the 1902 earthquake that destroyed much of the old city, seats up to 3,500 worshippers and anchors the historic quarter.
Where to Stay in Andijan
Most hotels concentrate near Navoi Street and the Babur Park district, putting guests within walking distance of the main bazaar and the museum quarter. The Andijan Bazaar — one of the Fergana Valley's largest daily markets — sells silk fabric, dried fruit, and regional ceramics. Business travelers arrive for the city's textile and food-processing industries; cultural visitors pair Andijan with Fergana city (88 km west) and Margilan (70 km west), the silk-weaving capital.
