About Ha Long
Ha Long: Gateway to the Bay of 1,969 Islands
Ha Long City sits on the northern coast of Quảng Ninh Province, roughly 160 km east of Hanoi. The city serves as the mainland launch point for Ha Long Bay, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1994, where limestone karst towers rise up to 100 metres from the water. Most visitors pass through Bãi Cháy — the tourist-facing district along the western shore — and Hòn Gai, the working port district to the east. The two were merged into a single municipality in 1994.
Where to Stay in Ha Long
Hotels concentrate along Hạ Long Road in Bãi Cháy, within walking distance of the Ha Long Night Market and the pier terminals. Properties range from mid-range guesthouses on the hillside to 4-star towers with bay-view rooms. Some travellers opt for floating hotels or overnight cruise vessels, which depart from Tuần Châu Marina or Cái Rồng Pier.
Practical Tips

- Weather: Typhoon season runs July through September; fog is common in February and March.
