Hotels in Hanoi

The Old Quarter suits travelers wanting walking distance to Hoan Kiem Lake and street-food lanes; Hoan Kiem District offers mid-range and business hotels near the French Quarter; Ba Dinh provides quieter stays close to Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum. Most visitors base here three to four nights. Noi Bai International Airport is 45 minutes north by taxi or express bus.

Where to Stay

The Old Quarter — 36 ancient trade-guild streets — is Hanoi's most atmospheric base. Guesthouses and boutique hotels line Hang Bac and Ma May, within five minutes' walk of Hoan Kiem Lake. Hoan Kiem District extends south into the French Quarter, where colonial-era four-star hotels sit along Ly Thuong Kiet and Trang Tien. Ba Dinh, west of the lake, is quieter and suits visitors focusing on the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum complex or the Temple of Literature (Van Mieu, founded 1070). Tay Ho (West Lake), 4 km north, offers lakeside serviced apartments popular for stays longer than a week.

Getting Around

The Old Quarter is walkable. Grab (ride-hail app) covers most short trips at metered fares. City buses connect Ba Dinh to Hoan Kiem for around 9,000 VND. Hanoi Metro Line 2A (Cat Linh–Ha Dong, opened 2021) serves southwest routes; extended lines are under construction.

• Currency: Vietnamese Dong (VND); ATMs are plentiful in the Old Quarter.
• Best season: October–December brings dry, cool weather (15–25 °C).
