Hotels in Udaipur

The most rewarding bases in Udaipur are the Old City (Badi Haveli lane and the ghats, ideal for lake views and heritage hotels); Hanuman Ghat for mid-range stays steps from Lake Pichola; Fateh Sagar for quieter lodgings north of the crowds; and Hiran Magri for modern apartments. Most visitors stay three to four nights; Maharana Pratap Airport is 22 km from the city center, roughly 40 minutes by taxi.

Where to Stay by Character

The Old City — bounded by City Palace to the east and Jagdish Temple to the north — suits travelers who want heritage havelis, rooftop restaurants overlooking Lake Pichola, and the Pichola Ghat promenade at arm's reach. Hanuman Ghat and Gangaur Ghat draw budget and mid-range guests; guesthouses here offer direct lake-facing terraces. Fateh Sagar road, 3 km north, is less congested and popular with longer-stay visitors. The palace island hotel Taj Lake Palace, accessible only by boat, occupies Jag Niwas island in the middle of Lake Pichola and dates to 1746.

Getting Around

Udaipur's Old City is compact — City Palace to Jagdish Temple is roughly 600 metres on foot. Auto-rickshaws and e-rickshaws cover the wider city; metered app cabs (Ola) reach Saheliyon ki Bari (2 km north) and Fateh Sagar Lake in under 10 minutes. Boat rides on Lake Pichola depart from Rameshwar Ghat, running to Jag Mandir island.

Practical Tips

• Best season: October to March; temperatures range 12–28 °C. April–June exceeds 40 °C.
• Airport access: Taxis from Maharana Pratap Airport take 35–45 minutes; no rail link exists to the airport.
• Train access: Udaipur City railway station connects to Delhi (Chetak Express, ~12 hours) and Mumbai. Book at least two weeks ahead during peak season.
• Light layers: Evenings in December–January drop to 10 °C; carry a jacket even if days are warm.
