Crispiano sits on the Murgia plateau in the Province of Taranto, Puglia, roughly 18 km north of Taranto itself. The town is defined by the gravine — deep limestone ravines carved by erosion over millennia — protected within the Parco Regionale Terra delle Gravine. The Gravina di Crispiano cuts directly through the municipal territory, with trails leading past cave dwellings used continuously from prehistoric times through the medieval period. The old centre retains a compact historic quarter around the Chiesa Madre di San Pietro Apostolo, a Baroque parish church reconstructed in the 18th century.

Visitors are mostly Italian, drawn by agritourism, hiking the ravine paths, and the unhurried pace of inland Puglia. The town attracts naturalists during spring wildflower season (April–May) and photographers chasing the dramatic ravine light in autumn. It is smaller and quieter than nearby Massafra, which has a more developed tourist infrastructure, but Crispiano offers direct access to the gravine trails without crowds.

The nearest airport is Brindisi (BDS), approximately 70 km northeast. Taranto is reachable by regional road in under 30 minutes and provides mainline rail connections. Accommodation in Crispiano is predominantly small family-run guesthouses and agriturismo properties rather than chain hotels.
