Finale Ligure sits on the Ligurian Riviera di Ponente, roughly 70 km southwest of Genoa and 35 km from the French border at Ventimiglia. The town divides into three distinct zones: Finalborgo, a medieval walled village inland with 15th-century gates and a Benedictine convent; Finalpia, centred on a 17th-century abbey; and Finalmarina, the seafront strip facing a 3 km sandy beach. The limestone cliffs rising directly behind the coast have made the area one of Europe's most referenced sport-climbing destinations, with over 1,200 documented routes on the Finalese crags.

Visitors split between beach tourism in summer and outdoor sports in spring and autumn. The trail network behind Finalborgo draws mountain bikers internationally — the Finale Outdoor Region encompasses marked singletracks linking the coast to villages at 600 m elevation. Rock climbers arrive from across Europe, particularly March through May and September through November. The medieval centro storico of Finalborgo, enclosed by 14th-century walls, attracts day-trippers from the Ligurian coast and northern Italian cities accessible via the A10 motorway.

Finale Ligure station (Finale Ligure Mare) sits on the Genoa–Ventimiglia rail line, with regional trains connecting to Genova Piazza Principe in approximately 70 minutes and to Nice in around 90 minutes. Most hotels concentrate within 500 m of the seafront promenade in Finalmarina.
