About Mezzolombardo
Mezzolombardo
Mezzolombardo occupies the southern end of the Piana Rotaliana, a flat alluvial basin in Trentino carved by the Adige and Noce rivers. The town is inseparable from Teroldego Rotaliano DOC, a red grape variety grown almost exclusively on this gravelly plain since at least the 15th century. Winery estates line the roads between the town and the village of Mezzocorona to the north, making the area a compact wine destination distinct from the better-known Alto Adige wine road farther up the valley.
Visitors arrive mainly to tour cellars, walk or cycle the flat vineyard paths, and use the town as a quiet base for day trips. Trento, with its Castello del Buonconsiglio and Piazza Duomo, is 20 km south by regional train — the station sits on the Verona–Brenner line with frequent departures. The Paganella ski plateau and the Brenta Dolomites UNESCO site are both reachable within 30–40 minutes by car, extending the appeal across seasons.
Accommodation in Mezzolombardo runs to a small number of hotels and agriturismo properties. Most sit on or near Via Roma and the central Piazza Erbe, within walking distance of local restaurants serving canederli and braised Teroldego-braised meats. The town hosts the Mostra dei Vini del Trentino in late spring, drawing regional producers each year.
