Plan your stay in Alcúdia, Mallorca — medieval walls, Roman ruins at Pollentia, and 10 km of sandy beach just 54 km from Palma Airport.
Alcúdia sits on a narrow peninsula in the northeast of Mallorca, Spain, enclosed by two bays — Badia d'Alcúdia to the east and Badia de Pollença to the west. The medieval walled town at its core dates to the 14th century, with Roman ruins — the ancient city of Pollentia — visible just outside the walls. The old town covers a compact area of roughly one square kilometre, making it walkable in an afternoon. Stone archways, a well-preserved circuit of Gothic walls, and the parish church of Sant Jaume anchor the historic centre.
Visitors arrive for a clear split of reasons. History-focused travellers come for Pollentia, one of the best-preserved Roman sites in the Balearic Islands, and the adjacent Museu Monogràfic. Beach visitors head 2–3 km south to Platja d'Alcúdia, a broad arc of fine sand stretching over 10 km toward Can Picafort. Families dominate the summer season — June through September — drawn by shallow waters and a wide range of accommodation along the seafront. Cyclists use Alcúdia as a base for routes into the Serra de Tramuntana foothills to the west.
Alcúdia is approximately 54 km northeast of Palma de Mallorca by road. Palma Airport is the main international entry point, with a drive of around 50 minutes under normal traffic conditions. A weekly market runs in the old town on Tuesdays and Sundays throughout the year.
