Stay in Haría, Lanzarote's northern palm valley and home of artist César Manrique — volcanic scenery, craft markets, and quiet village life await.
About Haría
Haría sits in a wide volcanic caldera in the north of Lanzarote, roughly 30 kilometres from the capital Arrecife. The municipality is known as the Valley of a Thousand Palms — a rare pocket of dense Canarian palm groves set against black lava ridges and whitewashed houses. The contrast is sharp: no other settlement on the island feels this green. Artist César Manrique chose Haría as his final home; his house, now the Casa-Museo César Manrique de Haría, preserves his studio and garden exactly as he left them before his death in 1992. The Saturday craft and food market on the central plaza draws visitors from across Lanzarote for local cheese, mojo sauces, and handmade pottery.
The town attracts travellers who want Lanzarote without the resort crowds of Puerto del Carmen or Costa Teguise. Hikers use Haría as a base for the Risco de Famara cliffs and the Mirador del Río lookout, both within 15 kilometres. The pace is deliberate — narrow lanes, a single main square, and restaurants serving papas arrugadas with fresh fish caught off the northern coast. Archaeological sites including the Jameos del Agua cave complex lie a short drive east.
Hotel supply in Haría is limited to small rural guesthouses and casa rural properties; most visitors book accommodation in the village centre or along the valley road to Máguez.
