About San Antonio

San Antonio: Ibiza's West-Coast Sunset Strip

San Antonio (Sant Antoni de Portmany) sits on the western coast of Ibiza, roughly 15 km from Ibiza Town, facing a natural bay that has drawn visitors since the Phoenicians settled here around 600 BC. Today the town is best known for the Café del Mar strip along Calle Vara de Rey, where open-air bars fill every evening to watch the sun drop into the Mediterranean. The old quarter around the 14th-century Church of Sant Antoni offers a quieter contrast to the resort waterfront.

Where to Stay

Accommodation clusters in three zones: the West End party district for nightlife-focused travelers, the calmer Caló des Moro headland to the north, and family-oriented apartments along Passeig de ses Fonts. Most hotels are open April through October only. The bay beach is narrow but the hotel pool infrastructure compensates, and Cala Gració — a small cove 2 km north — offers cleaner swimming.

Practical Tips

  • Getting there: Ibiza Airport is 18 km southeast; taxis take about 25 minutes.
  • Ferries: Regular boat services connect the bay to Cala Bassa, Cala Conta, and Ibiza Town throughout summer.
  • Crowds: July and August are peak months; late June and September offer lower hotel rates with similar weather.
  • Currency: Euro (€); card payments accepted widely, but beach bars often prefer cash.
