About Santa Eulària des Riu
Santa Eulària des Riu
Santa Eulària des Riu sits on Ibiza's eastern coast, 15 km northeast of Ibiza Town. The town takes its name from the Riu de Santa Eulària — the only river in the Balearic Islands — a detail that sets it apart from every other settlement on the island. The hilltop church, Puig de Missa, dates to the 16th century and anchors the old quarter above the marina promenade.
Families and couples choose Santa Eulària over the island's club resorts for a specific reason: the pace is slower and the beaches are practical. Playa de Santa Eulària stretches 600 metres along the bay, backed by pine trees and calm, shallow water. The Saturday hippy market at Las Dalias, 3 km north toward San Carlos, has run since 1985 and draws visitors from across the island each week.
The municipality includes smaller villages — Santa Gertrudis de Fruitera inland, and Cala Llenya on the coast — giving visitors a range of bases within one administrative area. The marina accommodates private yachts and runs regular ferry connections to Ibiza Town and Formentera. Most hotels in the area operate from April through October, with peak occupancy in July and August.
