Sanxenxo sits on the Rías Baixas coast of Galicia, northwestern Spain — a compact seaside town known for its above-average sunshine hours relative to the rest of the region and a string of Atlantic beaches. Silgar beach, the largest and most central, stretches roughly 800 metres along the town's main bay and holds a Blue Flag rating most years. The old fishing quarter of Portonovo adjoins Sanxenxo to the north, and the Illa de Ons — part of the Atlantic Islands of Galicia National Park — is reachable by ferry in under 30 minutes from the local harbour.
The town draws two distinct visitor groups. Spanish domestic tourists, particularly from Madrid and the Basque Country, arrive in July and August when Sanxenxo becomes one of Galicia's busiest summer resorts. Sailing enthusiasts come for the Real Club Náutico de Sanxenxo, which hosts national and international regattas including events on the King's Cup circuit — King Felipe VI has competed here regularly. Outside peak summer, the town is quieter, making spring and early autumn practical for travellers who prefer lower prices and uncrowded beaches.
Sanxenxo is served by Vigo–Ignacio Albéniz Airport, approximately 30 km to the south, which connects to Madrid, Barcelona, and several European cities. The A-55 motorway links the town to Vigo in roughly 30 minutes by car. Local accommodation ranges from small family-run guesthouses in Portonovo to larger seafront hotels along Silgar.
