About Peshawar
Peshawar: Gateway to the Khyber Pass
Peshawar, capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, sits at the eastern end of the Khyber Pass — the historic mountain corridor linking South Asia to Central Asia. The city has been a trading crossroads for over 2,500 years, and that mercantile identity still defines it. The Qissa Khwani Bazaar (Storytellers' Bazaar) in the old city has sold spices, dried fruit, and Peshwari chappal sandals since the Mughal era. The Bala Hisar Fort, built by the Mughals and expanded under Sikh rule, anchors the western edge of the old walled city.
Where to Stay
Most hotels cluster in the University Town district and along Jamrud Road, roughly 3–6 km west of the historic core. University Town offers quieter streets and proximity to the Peshawar Museum, which holds one of South Asia's largest collections of Gandhara Buddhist sculpture. Budget guesthouses concentrate near Saddar Bazaar; mid-range and 4-star properties line the GT Road corridor.
